We are going to have a trade fair type presentations.
You will get the opportunity to attend 3 presentations from people who went to uLearn.
After our management meeting on Monday I am hoping to start making a list of the topics and sessions on offer, so that you can choose the ones that meet your needs.
Our third workshop will be held on Tuesday 12 August at Otakaro 216, 217, 222 from 4:15 - 6:00 pm
We will be splitting into 3 groups
Junior School teachers
Middle School teachers
Senior School teacher.
The first half an hour will be a sharing of your schools thinking tool box.
What are the tools that your staff have agreed to use and explicitly teach with the wee sweethearts in your particular area of the school for term 3 and 4?
Bring along a copy of the tool/ s that you will use. This may be a book, or a card that will scaffold the children or laminated copies of the tool eg hats, or thinkers keys. You will be expected to outline how and why you have chose this set of tools.
I'll bring along the tool boxes for you.
One idea I saw once was the wee sweethearts in a particular area of a school also had " tool boxes" on their cooperative group tables. When the teacher said lets use a KWL chart the chn all got their copy from their group tool box.
The next sector will be an introduction to Comic Life. You need to do 2 things here.
1. All your schools have the registration codes for Comic Life, so you will need to have Comic Life loaded on your laptop as you will be working on your own laptop. Its a download from the net and then you enter the codes required.
2. You will also need some INTERESTING digital photos. We have spent time learning about and knowing what are good quality digital photos, and by now this should be an established practice in your school / classroom. if you are not sure about this then please either email me or talk to your lead teachers.
A wee hint... if the subject of your photo is in the middle, this is NOT a good photo.
Tamara will lead the year 7 & 8 teachers
Val and Karen will lead the year, 4, 5 and 6 teachers
I will lead the junior teachers.
Many thanks to Karen, Val and Tamara for "offering" to lead the workshops. ;-)
Our second workshop will be held on Tuesday 20 May at Otakara 217 from 4:15pm - 6:00pm
Lets begin with a sharing of good practice......... Examples of how has the last workshop helped you and your children use searching strategies that provides you with good quality information.
Who would like to share?
Perhaps you have strategies that work for you?
The focus for this workshop will be on thinking tools and graphic organisers to support classroom programmes
The workshop will include as much as possible:
The difference between graphic organisers and thinking tools
Developing a school philosophy on what to teach, how many, age specific etc
Horses for courses. The purpose behind some of the tools available
Hands on..... Looking at examples of varying thinking tools and analysing these
Using various urls, and of course your search strategies to find really good examples
Leaving the workshop with ideas for your school tool box
The first cluster workshop will be held on Monday March 3 at College of Education Otakara ( Avon) 232. 4:15pm - 6:00pm
The focus for this workshop will be on effective www searches.
The workshop will include as much as possible:
Introductions
The difference between a search engine and a web crawler.
Bollean logic
Advanced searches
Trimming
Linking windows
What to do with your favourites
Checking valdiity of sites
Use of notebook
What does the research say
Downloading sites to use off line
Putting all the above knowledge to win chocolate fish
Expectations from the day..... what will I see when I visit your classrooms? how will you share your new learning with the group?
