I had been doing it but forgot for a few photos.
Friendly for me but not for those reading our blog.

Hi Cheryl
You compress your photos so that they load quickly. A 4 Mg photo which some of the better cameras are able to take, will take 47 minutes to download on dial up on a good day. NO ONE will stay at your blog for 47 minutes.
So you compress photos so they load very quickly and people are able to enjoy the contents of your page. Would you read a book if the pages were stuck together and you had to carefully separate them every all the time??
Jocelyn Blogging
Hi Everyone,
I've been merrily and successfully downloading photos to my blog without compressing them. Can someone tell me why I need to. It is much friendlier to do it my way. See you all on Tuesday at workshop. How are my Ulearn friends doing with their presentations?

Hey team, just wanting to check, it seems the junior workshop date has changed again to the Wednesday from the Tuesday...am I correct in thinking it was originally Tuesday? Its just LCS junior staff won't be able to attend as we have our Parent Confences.
Thanks, Olivia

Lead teacher Day/Workshop/Junior wiki;
Positive feedback from staff at Greenpark.
Tracey, can't get into the junior wiki.
What is the exact address?
Cheryl 22/5/08
New Wiki
Yesterday I talked about setting up a wiki for junior teachers with ideas and web sites. The address is juniorsrus.wikispaces.com
I have posted 3 sites for juniors and I would like you to encourage your junior teachers to have a look and add to the ideas and sites.
Thanks for yesterday, some interesting points to ponder, although being as red as I am pondering isn't high on my list of skills.
Have a great day
Tracey 21/5/08
Our goals...
Am I correct in believing that we have to add a goal to the Wiki of something we are going to achieve this term with regard to our role as Lead Teacher?
Olivia 20/5/08 - Yes it's via the Lead Teacher Day link... FM 20/5 Thanks Frase! :-) 21/5
Todays workshop/Lead Teacher day
I think tonights workshop was really worthwhile. Talking from what I saw of my LCS staff. It was great to see them getting into the mind map activities. I know I learned of some new forms. We are setting a goal to use 2 mind maps each term. One is a new one to us, challenging etc, the other an 'old favourite'. ;-)
I don't know about you but I enjoyed having Sandra there today. From a personal perspective great to have a chat to her and to get some guidance on how to approach a couple of ICT things with my school. Also great to have her feedback in support to Jocelyn.
Lovely to catch up with you all again!
Ps - I enjoyed today too....love that brain stuff!! Thanks J.
Olivia :-) 20/5/08
Thanks to everybody who shared at the junior workshop at Dunsandel. There were some great ideas and Sue Ellis was very inspiring, thanx Jocelyn for organising that. I'm sure there's lots more happening in classes and I hope if there is a next time that more people feel confident to share their teaching.
Tracey 9.4.08
We had a great day at Dunsandel yesterday. Thanks to Tracey for hosting us.
Lots shared things they have done and there were others who had done things they didn't share.
Maybe next time.It was really good to meet with people who are teaching at the same level.
Jocelyn's visit to school was really useful. Thanks Jocelyn.
I have been to a writing course tonight, no talk of ICT,lots of good ideas and I need still more hours in my day to do it all.
Cheryl 8.4.08 Years 3-5 workshop at West Melton
Hi Leads and Jocelyn,
Fraser, Chris and I meet tonight and we think that we are sorted for next Tuesday. :-) We are looking foward to working within a specific age range. I believe we'll learn as much from the other teachers and hopefully they'll do the same by us! ;-)
Just a pity that we can't make your workshops as well. Hope they go well for you!
Olivia 2/4/08
I think I did it this time.2/4/08
I am trying to add something to this space.
Maybe this time!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheryl
Hi Cheryl...well done my friend! :-) I've been really enjoying using the wiki. Personally have found it more straight forward than Centre 4. Cheryl, can you post your email address please, I don't have it. Thanks.
Olivia 2/4/08
Well done Leads - I have just enjoyed reading through your discussions - what an example of collaborative learning. Fantastic! Our school's are in good hands. Hope everyone has logged the 8.30am meeting next Thursday (13th) at Hillyers. An email containing the agenda items has been sent to you all. Keep up the good work. Nick 6/3/08
Hey Lead's,
As discussed this page allows us the opportunity to discuss anything we want with it being be documented as we go.
So remember to check this regularly and contribute those great ideas/thoughts that you all have!! :-)
You will need to scroll down. The oldest posts will be at the bottom. Probably a good idea to date our posts so we know whe they were entered. Great to see some responses. :-) Olivia
Your posts will go whereever you want them to go.... It all depends where you click the curser. At lead teacher day I'll show lots of wee tricks and tips so you get wikis really running well. Jocelyn 2/4/08
Thanks Jocelyn, looking forward to learning more tips etc. In fact, that is what I am keen to talk to you about at my session when you visit LCS next week. I initially put this note in when this page first started up to ask that new postings be put at the top. It is great with a wiki how you can edit it in a similiar way to a word document. Great that you can move the cursor around to respond to whatever you wish. :-) Olivia 2/4/08
Just wondering how you are all getting on organising your workshops? Are you holding them till 3pm or for longer? Do you have any guest speakers etc coming in for the after school part? Olivia 29/3/08
Hi people
After a comment Olivia made I thought an email to you all might be appropriate.
For the age specific workshops your role was to act as the hostess with the mostess, and host the workshop at yr school. Remember the intension was that other teachers were to come along with examples of thing that had or had not worked in their school and show case learning.
The after school slot 3:15 - 4:30 was for me to facilitate workshops. With that in mind I have finalised all the speakers that I have invited along, seeing Inquiry is the cluster direction this year.
Monday at Dunsandel is Sue Ellis showcasing Inquiry with junior children Tuesday and Wednesday is Audrie Mckenzie from Learnz showcasing how a learnz field trip, or part there of could fit in with yr Inquiry learning Learnz is free to Canterbury Schools. I've added this to the wiki but if its a problem for you, in that you had something else organised can you please let me know ASAP
See you all next week
Jocelyn 1/4/08
Jocelyn - Hope you didn't mind that I posted your email. I just noticed on the email I recieved that not all Lead's email addresses were in and I thought this would be an effective way to inform them all about these workshops, in case there were others who weren't entirely clear on the 3pm onwards slot..
This wiki page has been great as it has allowed me to get Frasers email address. Olivia 2/4/08
Hi Olivia, not sure if Chris passed my email on to you but if you want to contact me you could email me on fraser@kirweemodel.school.nz or call the school at lunch time. I am free Wednesday afternoon from about 4pm or Friday afternoon. Cheers, Fraser 1/4/08
Hi Fraser, thanks for your email address, I have tucked that away into contacts. Wednesday (today) suits me, haven't heard from Chris so have text her also. Olivia 2/4/08
Hi Leads - well after our meeting this morning I promised I would come online and throughly read through the wiki and continue to do so on a regular basis. Its great to see the comments and ideas bouncing around, as soon as I start having some good ones Ill post them! hehehe. I look forward to seeing all the senior teachers at Burnham beg of April. Tamara 12/3/08
I'll be holding you to that Tamara!! ;-) Olivia 28/3/08
Blogs - The Leeston Senior Syndicate team are concerned that we are not keeping up to date and maintaining our blog effectively. The barrier I feel is that you can only have one person logged into a blog at once. How do you all manage to add to your blogs, find the time etc? Suggestions/ideas greatfully accepted!! Olivia 6/3/08
Not so. When I am teaching with children in a class we have up to 15 groups / pairs all working on the same blog, under the same log in, all adding posts. I log on to all the laptops, and the wee sweethearts go for it....
I suggest to schools / classes that they have the chn paired. Today Jeremy and Sarah are responsible for adding a post for the blog, reflecting the learning that has happened in the class, or an interesting activity around the school. They know at some stage through the day they have to add a post. Perhaps it is at 2:45 pm as a reflection. Check out Waikawa Bay School
Jeremy and Sarah culd of course do their posting during literacy time... it is reading adn writing after all. Lots of research shows that chn are more particular about making their blog post accurate because they are gauranteed an audience out there. Often what they write in a c/room is sometimes read by the teacher and maybe the child next door..... Tuesday is Marty and Tom Wednesday Phillipa and David etc
Hand it over to the children..... become a facilitator, not the gatekeeper.
Ref pg 36 in the NZ curric. last parragraph. "Schools should explore not only how ICT can supplement traditional ways of teaching but also how it can open up new and different ways of learning." Blogs are ideal for this...... Jocelyn 6 March
That sounds a good idea, Jocelyn. I will pass it onto senior classes. I still find it difficult to manage with juniors. It really is me that has to write it and include pictures. I am working on a buddy system with some seniors. Wee ones can't even find the right keys on the keyboard. Still plodding on with this though. Rachel 6/3/08
Thanks Jocelyn, so just to confirm, they CAN all be writing and adding posts to the one blog address at the same time? If so that would be FANTASTIC!! Especially as we still operate under a lab system here. Some great suggestions there Jocelyn, THANKS!! Olivia 6/3/08

Hi Leeston! This year I have decided to place the class blog on the data projector before the bell goes so the children can read it first thing in the morning. We then read it out and eagerly search for comments!!!! For the first week I wrote the comments with the students but now two students post a comment at long play. They leave it until I have checked it. We all cant wait to see what it looks like the next day! Also I have followed the steps Tracey showed us to ensure outside comments are vetted first. I got my first one via my email and all I had to do was read it and click on the okay button. Easy Peasy!!! So thanks Tracey. Some our teachers need to delete last years blogging adventures. I talked with staff about one of the schools who keep their old blogging journeys as memories. One of our staff asked if it was possible to archive the previous years journey on the blog site under the year. Sounded like a good idea to me but not sure if this is possible?
From Chris (not sure what the picture is of but is kind of cute!)
Not sure what this is but interesting anyway!
Do you think we still need Techi Brekkis now that we meet for a whole day? I kind of think that if we spend the first 1/2 hour of so at the meeting workshops that may be enough? What do you think? Olivia 4/3/08
I think now that we have the opportunity to meet for a whole day we can combine the two. Yes I think we can devote the first hour to our business discussions/directions. I see our workshop dates have altered and we are now meeting with principals at Helliers on Thursday morning. Good opportunity to share/discuss directions;. Thankyou. Chris Q.
Chris, I would agree with you there, provided that we allowed a set time and stick to that! There is always this forum that we can use to communcate through, as well as via emails, phonecalls etc. Only good thing from techie breakies was that things were getting recorded and we had an agenda set out. However, no reason why we couldn't post the agenda on the wiki and then it can be added to as necessary. Then we continue to add to as things get discussed at the LT days. Olivia
I agree with you both about the meetings, I'll miss the coffee & food though!!
Now that we have a meeting set up with the Principals, that's another avenue for the discussions we had at breaky.
Thanks Olivia great idea about this page. Tracey
Where are you using wikis in your school at the moment? Olivia 4/3/08
Our school will have a closer look at the Selwyn cluster wiki space tomorrow at our meeting. We will discuss difference between wiki's and blogs as I know this is area of confusion. I have started a westmeltonteacher wiki space to allow for sharing of great resources and discussions. As staff become familiar with wikis they may choose to start a wiki for their classroom??? Chris Q
I have put the suggestion forward to the school management in utilising a wiki for school administration such as admin meetings, even replacing the school notice book. I know there will be some resilience so I need to work out a way to get 'buy in' for using an online tool. That is something that I need to seek further imput on. As to classroom use of a wiki, at this stage the only ideas I have had are as a place to load facts about the topic or to set up a homework forum for Room 6. Will add more as I think of them. Olivia
My staff don't have any experience with wikis but will have after our staff meeting. Tracey
Little River staff are not using wikis at all at the moment. After our staff PL meeting we will probably start by signing up, viewing the Selwyn Cluster and then setting up a message board system, within the school. Rachel 6/3/08
