NOTE: Lots of the parts to both these papers can be done withy a colleague, group, syndicate, eg the senior syndicate use the same concept map, or teach te same Inquiry. The reflection. written part must be individual, EXCEPT for assignment 3 EDIC757 which is all group work, unless you really do want to work on your own. ;-)
EDIC757. Information Literacy through Inquiry Learning.

There are readings associated with this paper and the idea is to contribute your thoughts on the readings and to provide feedback to others
There are 3 assignments:
1.What do I as a learner understand about information literacy and the inquiry process and the skills needed for success?
• Choose an information model
• Undertake a short research assignment on an agreed topic relevant to your teaching
• Document your process, also the tools and skills used, using the supplied organiser
• Reflect on your journey through the information model
We will work through alot of this during the April holiday workshop
2. How can we teach students to improve the quality of their learning and thinking through the use of ICT and other tools within the inquiry learning process? How can we teach them to become critical yet creative information seekers and users, skilful and deliberate problem solvers?
Create and teach an Inquiry unit with your students
Write and present a report on the planning, implementation of and reflection on an inquiry- learning-based unit of work in your classroom.
This unit will:
• relate to the teaching and learning of information skills
• incorporate the use of information or communication technology available in your school
3. Visit another school library, a public library and the College of Education Library.
Create a brief report, no more than 2 sides on the current status of the resources in your school in ONE of the areas below in PMI format
• Library use – environment, timetabling, staffing, patterns and nature of use, breadth of resourcing, policies, database used, ability to access from classrooms etc
• Resources available for students and teachers, and access to these (within the library, as well as the rest of the school, and from outside the school) – include access to the community and use of the internet (policies), journal search, DVDs, CDs, newspapers, kits etc.
• Tools – used to support information literacy – eg - for information finding, gathering, using, presenting and communicating – think broadly (eg ICT – computers (laptops, intranet), internet, phones, faxes, digital cameras etc), mind tools too.
• Learning programmes, personnel and Professional Development – inclusion, development of an inquiry model, development of higher order thinking, use of mind tools, ICT development etc
Then create a plan of action for your school for short term and longer term, re how ICT and resources can us utlised to support information literacy and Inquiry learning at your school.
THIS ASSIGNMENT IS MORE PURPOSEFUL IF IT IS DONE AS A GROUP, SYNDICATE OR EVEN AS A SCHOOL, AND TABLED WITH THE SCHOOL'S MANAGEMENT and or BOT.
EDUIC758 Producing and Integrating effective ICT resources into the classroom
This paper requires you to submit a portfolio of resources that you have used with your students. All 700 level, tertiary level papers, have written assignments as a reflective process, getting teachers to think about their practice, and the learning involved for their students.
There are 3 assignments.
1. Resources
a newsletter and at least one other print based resources, that includes a photo, columns, bullet points, tabs and tab markers, columns and other print conventions etc
The written assignment of approx 1,000 words is about your justification for the print conventions and the reflective process, how well did this go, what changes would you make?
2. Concept mapping
Create and use a concept map eg Inspiration with your students. What are the curriculum links
Write about the activity, the higher order thinking processes that the children undertook when using the concept map, links to the curriculum etc.
3. Multimedia resource
Create and use a multimedia resource, beginning with your instructional design. (storyboard)
Write a formal evaluation to link the learning.
