Thank you and goodbye

Thank you to the lead teachers for stepping up and presenting at the workshops last night. Presenting is always a challenge nerve wracking, and exciting none the less. I really appreciate your efforts, I acknowledge its not always easy. Thanks too to the lead teachers that jumped in and supported others and helped at the end of the evening.

I have enjoyed my time with Selwyn Cluster, however it is the people I have met, the teachers I have worked beside and the friendships I have made that really makes leaving hard. Thank you thank you thank you. Take care, arohanui. Jocelyn

Communication the bloke way!

Isn't this taking the technology a bit too far....... What ever happened to talking to each other?

A wow moment

Last week I had a WOW moment when a colleague shared with me some new learning.
Rather than using a template for Comiclife, stay with the blank page. Pull over a series of photos and arrange them like a montage. Use angles, over lapping etc. Save this as an image (jpg) onto your desk top. However this does make a huge file. Compress compress compress. Now upload the image to become your screen saver. Really powerful and so so much easier than using Photoshop. Now the implications for learning.......I've used images like this in Photoshop to represent a word, eg compassion, making those links and connections in literacy. let the power of the images tell the story
In the meantime I'm sharing a Teaching is....... as the montage.

Thelma @ West Melton

Look in Year 1-4 on the left navigation to read about Thelma and the ways she has used ICT to transition children into West Melton School. Do other schools use ICT in creative ways to inform their parent community?

Many many thanks for yesterday.

Many many thanks to Rachel, Chris, Olivia, Linda and Sue who presented workshops last night. It's not easy, requires a lot of planning and preparation, and givesanxiety and stress. I acknowledge that. However the feedback from the teachers attending was really positive which makes the time worthwhile.

As you can see I have the Rotorua Reflections page back up and running again, in its pure state. I learnt something new about retrieving lost pages. Previously I had always been able to retrieve text, but now I can bring back the video clips and the diagrams. Yahoo. Let me know if you would like more details.
Be proud of your efforts and thanks for making the day work well.

Thanks Rachel and Chris. Have had very positive feedback from all the staff and appreciated the handout. -Val
